Dental Pain — What a Concierge Doctor Can (and Can’t) Do

Tooth pain can be sharp, throbbing, or relentless—and it always seems to strike at the worst time. While Calabasas Concierge MD isn’t a dental clinic, Dr. Hakman can provide an initial evaluation, can perform lidocaine injections, and prescribe antibiotics if needed. Whether it’s an infection, cracked tooth, gum inflammation, or sensitivity from grinding, dental pain can make eating, sleeping, and concentrating nearly impossible. While many cases ultimately require a dentist, members can receive immediate medical evaluation by board-certified ER physician Dr. Eryk Hakman to manage pain, rule out serious infection, and stabilize symptoms.

Common causes of dental pain include:

  • Dental infection or abscess
  • Cracked or fractured tooth
  • Severe cavities
  • Gum inflammation (gingivitis or periodontitis)
  • Teeth grinding (bruxism)
  • Sinus infections mimicking tooth pain
  • Post-procedure irritation

At Calabasas Concierge MD, we begin with a focused evaluation to identify whether your symptoms stem from a dental infection, nerve irritation, or another medical cause. We provide pain control, antibiotics when appropriate, and guidance on immediate steps to reduce symptoms. If dental or oral surgery follow-up is needed, we help coordinate your next steps. For any signs of a spreading infection, we will guide you to the emergency department and help advocate on your behalf.

Dr. Hakman’s note: “Dental infections can progress quickly to life threatening conditions such as Ludwig’s Angina. Early treatment makes a major difference in your comfort—and your safety.”

Why patients in Calabasas trust Calabasas Concierge MD for dental pain:

  • Immediate evaluation
  • Antibiotic therapy when appropriate
  • Prescription-strength pain management
  • Help determining urgency and needed dental follow-up
  • Direct access to a physician—not a midlevel provider

When to seek emergency care: If you experience facial or neck swelling or redness, fever with severe dental pain, trouble swallowing, difficulty opening your mouth, drooling, or any signs the infection is spreading, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department immediately. For moderate cases or unsure situations, Calabasas Concierge MD provides rapid, physician-led care.
